New Safety Device For High-Pressure Wells —Brochure Available
Boots Hansen of Boots & Coots Inc. of Houston, Texas, and Paul Koomey of Koomey Inc. of Brookshire, Texas, recently announced the development and sale of a new device for high-pressure oil or gas wells they feel is a significant answer to platform safety.
The Saf-T Shear model BCK, manufactured by Koomey Inc., was conceived and designed by Mr. Hansen and a group of engineers from Koomey Blowout Preventers Inc. led by Marvin Jones. The designs on this new device were shown recently to an oil company and the order for the first two units will be delivered in April of 1983 to the North Sea.
The Saf-T Shear is a tubing head and a shear ram in one unit. It is installed after the casing has been set. The tubing is then run and hung in the Saf-T Shear. The Saf-T Shear then becomes a permanent part of the wellhead. The device protects the well dur- ing wireline, workover, coil tubing, and snubbing operations. In the development of the Saf-T Shear, wireline, single and dual tubing strings and 7-inch casing have been cut and the well sealed. The new Saf-T Shear is described in literature from Koomey.
